President Marcos is expected to soon announce the appointment of two bankers to the highest policy-making body of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP).
Insiders told Manila Bulletin that Walter C. Wassmer, a veteran executive from BDO Unibank Inc., will likely join the seven-member Monetary Board.
Wassmer previously held positions at BDO Elite Savings Bank (formerly GE Money Bank) and BDO’s institutional banking group.
In addition to Wassmer, sources revealed that President Marcos will also appoint another banker to the BSP’s Monetary Board.
The decision to select bankers is aimed at diversifying the board, which is currently dominated by members with backgrounds in economics, sources said.
These two new appointees would take over the positions of the current Monetary Board Members, V. Bruce J. Tolentino and Anita Linda R. Aquino, who are resigning on June 30, 2024.
