The Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) has approved a 30-day toll holiday for all exits of the Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX) starting from July 1, 2024.
In a statement, Raul L. Ignacio, Cavite Infrastructure Corp. (CIC) president and general manager announced the implementation of the toll holiday after consultation with the the Philippine Reclamation Authority (PRA).
To recall, President Marcos announced last week the toll holiday during the inauguration of the CAVITEX C5 Link Segment 2.
The toll-free holiday will cover exits in Kawit, Paranaque, C5 Link segment Merville, Taguig exits, and the newly inaugurated Segment 2 (Sucat Interchange).
Despite the potential impact on toll revenues, Ignacio said they support the decision to enable motorists to enjoy seamless expressway travel.
Although TRB faced criticism for a brief delay in issuing the toll holiday directive, Ignacio praised their thorough approach in making significant decisions.
The CIC, a private developer, builder, and financier of CAVITEX, operates in partnership with the PRA under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) agreement.
PPP advocates emphasized the importance of prior consultation among partners in joint ventures to ensure productive results in various infrastructure projects.
They highlighted the critical role of a regulator like TRB in safeguarding the well-being of stakeholders and ensuring the long-term success of PPP investments.
This toll holiday is expected to benefit motorists and riders using CAVITEX exits, providing relief and enhancing the overall travel experience for a limited period from July 1, 2024.
