Cataracts are treated by surgically removing the clouded lens and replacing it with an artificial lens called an intraocular lens (IOL). Unlike traditional cataract surgery, which involves large incisions requiring several stitches and thick spectacles, cataract surgeons at EVI use modern small-incision surgery that requires no stitches and offers a variety of ever-improving IOLs that enable patients to achieve better vision.

According to Dr. Sidney Cheng, Head of TMC’s Cataract Section, advancements in lens implant technology represent the most significant development in patient care and satisfaction. These advancements allow cataract patients to achieve clear vision at distance, intermediate, and near ranges, mostly independent of eyeglasses.

EVI is at the forefront of adopting new technology and actively participates in the research and development of new innovations. Dr. Cheng explains, “Currently, several of us on the staff are  involved in the research, testing, and development of these lenses.”
