NTC warns public vs scammers pretending to be agency employees

The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) alerted the public about individuals impersonating NTC personnel or employees.

The commission issued the statement on Thursday evening, June 27 after receiving a report through its Consumer Welfare and Protection Division.

Scammers have been calling victims and threatening them, falsely claiming that their phone numbers are involved in scams.

"The victim is then coerced into giving money to supposedly avoid criminal charges and have their mobile numbers removed from the alleged list of scammers," NTC said.

In response to these reports, the NTC strongly reminds the public to be "extra cautious" against this type of scam.

"Such calls are a form of scam and are not legitimate," it said.

Meanwhile, the commission urged the public to report such scams to the NTC for immediate action through the following official channels if they have any information.

Victims may contact the NTC via the complaint link at www.ntc.gov.ph, email at [email protected] or [email protected], call the 24/7 consumer hotline at 1682, or the numbers 89204464, 89267722, and 89213251 (available from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., from Monday to Friday).

"The NTC appreciates members of the public who have reported this form of deception," NTC noted.
