“Partnering with SUEZ represents a pivotal milestone in our commitment to ensuring a sustainable and reliable water supply for the people of Metro Iloilo,” said Christopher Andrew B. Pangilinan, president and chief executive officer of Metro Pacific Water, in a statement.

The agreement recently sealed in Singapore will bring 65 million liters per day (MLD) of fresh water from seawater, increasing water supply for Metro Pacific Iloilo Water (MPIW), the joint venture between Metro Pacific Water and the government-owned Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD).

MPIW serves Iloilo City as well as the neighboring towns of Pavia, Leganes, Santa Barbara, Cabatuan, Oton, San Miguel, and Maasin.

“We are privileged to collaborate with Metro Pacific Water on this critical initiative. Our cutting-edge desalination technology will contribute significantly to securing a sustainable water source for Iloilo,” said Farchad Kaviani, head of SUEZ in Asia, in a statement.

Once operational, the desalination plant is seen to aid in the needed water supply for a growing Metro Iloilo that is home to many business process outsourcing (BPO) companies.
