Magnitude 4.7 quake hits Occidental Mindoro — Phivolcs

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded a 4.7-magnitude quake that struck Occidental Mindoro on Thursday morning, June 27.
Based on Phivolcs’ data, the earthquake struck at 9:53 a.m., with an epicenter 37 kilometers southwest of Paluan, Occidental Mindoro.
Phivolcs initially reported the quake at 4.8-magnitude.
The tremor was “slightly felt” at Intensity II in Tagaytay City, Alfonso and Mendez in Cavite, and Mabini in Batangas.
It was “scarcely perceptible” at Intensity I in Manila and Navotas in Metro Manila, and Amadeo in Cavite.
Phivolcs’ instruments also recorded the earthquake at Intensity III (weak) in Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro and Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro; Intensity II in Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro; Abra de Ilog, Occidental Mindoro; and Tagaytay City, Cavite; and Intensity I in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro; Calatagan, Batangas; and Navotas, Metro Manila.
The earthquake was tectonic, which means it was caused by the movement of an active fault near the area.
However, Phivolcs does not expect damage or aftershocks because of this earthquake.
