Gen Z’s first home appliance is usually a rice cooker. What are the dishes they can cook with it?

A local food company creates a TikTok page to answer this

A recent study by local food company NutriAsia found that rice cookers top the list of first home appliances for Gen Z starting out on their own.

The concept of "adulting" presents a myriad of challenges, especially when it comes to tasks requiring time, effort, and specific skill sets that young adults may not yet possess. Food preparation becomes a common dilemma.  Deciding what to eat and how to cook it often leads to the realization of "not knowing how to cook" or "not having time to cook." For many, takeout becomes the easy solution, but it can quickly eat away at their food budget.

To help these young adults navigate this change, NutriAsia launched a recipe community, TasteTok PH. Housed on the social media platform TikTok, this is created to teach them how to cook healthy dishes that don't require complicated recipes or fancy kitchen gadgets. Some recipes already featured in the channel are easy-does-it rice cooker meals, including Sweet and Spicy Chicken, Filipino Style Carbonara, Adobo Rice, Sinigang Rice, Tinola Rice, and Kimchi Rice.

“We understand the demands of modern life, and we strive to provide solutions that fit into the hectic schedules of these young adults,” James Lim, corporate marketing and communications head of NutriAsia. “This is why we launched new NutriAsia products that are meant for easy-to-prepare recipes that align with the tastes of the young generation.”

Lim also said that they plan to share these videos on other social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram.

The videos also feature the company’s easy-to-use products such as the UFC Korean Fun Chow, which are rice mixes that come in Bulgogi, Bimbimbap, and Kimchi flavors; Oppa Mixes, an all-purpose Korean-style meat sauce used for glazing, dipping, or marinading; Datu Puti Adobo Series, an assortment of savory adobo sauces; and UFC Overload, an all-in-one, heat-and-serve sauce with real ingredients.

“We always try to anchor our content based on the consumer's insight. We make sure that ingredients are available and something that they usually use,” NutriAsia Recipe marketing manager Danielle Rocha told Manila Bulletin Lifestyle.“We do pork and chicken with vegetables and fish because these are the top dishes they want.”
