Deniece Cornejo transferred to CIW Maximum Security Camp

Model Denice Cornejo was transferred to the Maximum Security Camp at the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong on June 27.

She was taken to the CIW on May 2 after she was convicted by a Taguig court of serious illegal detention for ransom of TV host and comedian Ferdinand “Vhong” Navarro.

Based on procedures, upon her admission at CIW, Cornejo stayed at the Reception and Diagnostic Center (RDC) where all newly arrived prisoners stay for up to 60 days including five days in quarantine.

Cornejo spent 56 days at the RDC before she was transferred to the CIW Maximum Security Camp.

On May 2, the Taguig Regional Trial Court Branch 153 found Cornejo, Cedric Lee, Simeon Palma Raz Jr. and Ferdinand Guerrero guilty beyond reasonable doubt for serious illegal detention for ransom of Navarro and sentenced them to reclusion perpetua, which carries imprisonment of “twenty years and one day to forty years.”

“Wherefore, premises considered, this court hereby finds accused Deniece Millinette Cornejo, Cedric Lee, Ferdinand Guerrero And Simeon Palma Raz, guilty beyond reasonable doubt for the crime of serious illegal detention for ransom, defined and punished under Article 267 of the Revised Penal Code, as amended; and hereby sentences them to suffer the penalty of reclusion perpetua,” the court ruled.

After the Taguig court issued the decision, Cornejo was transferred to the CIW for her to start serving the sentence.

The CIW Maximum Security Camp houses high profile persons deprived of liberty (PDLs).

Under the BuCor operating manual, maximum security PDLs are those who are highly dangerous or high security risk PDLs. They include those whose minimum sentence is 20 years and above, and other factors.

Based on their prison sentences, Raz, Lee and Guerrero are also expected to be transferred to the Maximum Security Camp of the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa from the NBP RDC

In an earlier interview with Manila Bulletin, Dennis Cornejo, Deniece’s dad, said he was heartbroken when his daughter was convicted of the crime but believes that she is innocent.
