3 Dutertes running will boost Dela Rosa, Go's senatorial bid—Bato

No more guerilla tactics.

Should former president Rodrigo Duterte, his sons Davao City 1st District Rep. Paolo “Polong” Duterte and Davao City Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte run for the Senate, Sen. Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa said he is certain this will boost his and fellow partymate Sen. Christopher “Bong” Go’s re-election bid in the 2025 May elections.

As such, they would no longer resort to “guerilla tactics” but will engage in the senatorial campaign that is considered “conventional.”

“With that latest information na may tatlong Duterte na tatakbo at saka kung magseseryoso si Philip Salvador, so magiging anim na kami ngayon sa campaign trail. Masaya na ito, masaya na, happy na (with that latest information that three Dutertes will run, and if Philip Salvador will take it seriously, then it would be six who will enter the campaign trail. This is good, I’m happy already),” Dela Rosa said during the Kapihan sa Senado forum on Thursday, June 27.

“From guerilla tactics maybe we will be shifting slowly to somehow conventional tactics. From unconventional to sort of conventional, little conventional,” he added.

According to Dela Rosa, he and Go had been resolute in waging a guerilla-style campaign due to the fact they are neither part of the administration nor are they part of the opposition.

Both Go and Dela Rosa are part of the Partido ng Demokratikong-Pilipino-Laban (PDP-Laban) faction that recognizes former party president Duterte as the party chairman.

“Nasa gitna kami. So parang kaming mga guerilla dito. Very lonely ng aming magiging campaign trail kasi kaming dalawa lang (we’re in the middle. So it’s like we will act like guerillas. It would be a very lonely campaign trail if only the two of us pursue it),” he pointed out.

However, Dela Rosa said he is still uncertain whether the three Dutertes will pursue the senatorial seat.

He said it would be best to just wait for the three of them to officially file their certificate of candidacy (COC) on October.

“Hintayin natin yung filing of candidacy kung talaga magfa-file sila (Let’s just wait for the filing of candidacy and check if they will really run for the Senate),” he said.
