DAVAO CITY – Mayor Michelle Nakpil Rabat vowed on Wednesday, June 26, to continue delivering essential services to distant barangays and ensure that every citizen has access to nutritious food and vital support to achieve a hunger-free Mati City.

Rabat made the pledge after Mati City bagged its first-ever Walang Gutom Award from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
She personally received the award in Malacañang from President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
Other awardees were Asuncion, Davao del Norte; Kidapawan City, North Cotabato; Quezon City, Santiago City, Bago City, and Cadiz City; Bacnotan, La Union; Palompon, Leyte, and Biliran province.
“On behalf of the City of Mati LGU, I am deeply honored and grateful to receive the Walang Gutom Award from Galing Pook and the DSWD. To the Maternal Mental Nutritional Recovery Family Care-avan team, we made it! We got the Walang Gutom Award. Congratulations,” Rabat said.
Rabat said the recognition proves their team’s hard work and dedication in addressing poverty and malnutrition in the community. She added that Maternal, Mental, Nutrition Recovery (MMNR) Family Care-avan has been crucial in helping most isolated and disadvantaged residents.
The MMNR Care-avan, launched in 22 and implemented in 26 barangays, offers a wide range of government services to residents in remote and underserved areas. Rather than requiring residents to visit city hall, the LGU takes its services directly to these distant barangays.
Rabat said MMNR includes feeding programs for children, distributing nutritious food or crops for household cultivation to ensure an adequate food supply, and other health care, nutri-care, and work care.
“This award inspires us to continue our efforts and strive even harder to ensure that no one in Mati City goes hungry. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the national government for acknowledging our initiatives and providing this platform to highlight our work,” she said.
Only 17 LGUs made it to the national finals out of over 100 entries submitted for the inaugural Walang Gutom Awards. Two were from the Davao region – Mati City and Asuncion.
Winners received cash incentives.
Marcos thanked the LGUs for their efforts to assist their communities. He urged them to implement or improve projects that target hunger and nutrition issues in their communities as one of the administration's legacies is to ensure that no Filipino goes hungry by the end of his term.
