LPA to bring rainy weather to Mindanao — PAGASA

A low pressure area (LPA) has formed east of Mindanao, prompting the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) to issue a weather advisory on Wednesday morning, June 26.

PAGASA Weather Specialist Benison Estareja said the LPA developed at 8 a.m. and located 365 kilometers east-southeast of General Santos City, within the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ).

He said the LPA is expected to remain stationary in the coming hours, but may slowly move westward and dissipate within 24 to 36 hours.

Although the LPA has a low chance of developing into a tropical cyclone, it may bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms to Caraga, Davao Region, Soccskargen, (South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, General Santos City), and Northern Mindanao.

Estareja advised residents in affected areas to monitor weather updates and take necessary precautions due to potential flash floods or landslides in vulnerable areas.

The easterlies may also bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms to Aurora, Quezon, Bicol, Eastern Visayas, and nearby areas.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon and Visayas will experience partly cloudy to cloudy weather with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms.

Estareja said the LPA will likely dissipate by Thursday afternoon, June 27.

For Thursday, Visayas and Palawan can expect cloudy weather with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the ITCZ.

Meanwhile, Bicol, Quezon, Aurora, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, and nearby areas will continue to experience scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the easterlies.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms.
