House Speaker Martin Romualdez finds no problem with the Duterte family's supposed plans to field not one, not two, but three senatorial bets in the May 2025 mid-term elections.
Romualdez was asked to react to this Wednesday afternoon, June 26 during a chance interview in Quezon City.
"Well it's a democratic nation that we live in, so any Filipino has the right provided that they have the proper qualifications to seek for higher office," said the leader of the 300-plus strong House of Representatives.
A day earlier, Vice President Sara Duterte told reporters that her father, former president Rodrigo Duterte; and siblings Davao City 1st district Rep. Paolo Duterte and Davao City Mayor Baste Duterte are all eyeing a senatorial run, potentially in 2025.
She says that Mayor Duterte even plans to run for president during the 2028 presidential elections.
Romualdez, in the same interview, said he intends to seek a third and final term as Leyte 1st district representative next year.
