VP Duterte says brother Baste to run for president in 2028


DAVAO CITY – Vice President Sara Duterte said on Tuesday, June 25, that her younger brother, Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte here, may run for president in the 2028 elections.

Vice President Duterte announced this during an interview in Cagayan de Oro City where she hosted the annual Office of the Vice President (OVP) Pride Reception.

“My mother (Elizabeth Zimmerman) told me my brother will run for senator. Then he will run for the presidency in the 2028 elections,” Vice President Duterte said in a local dialect.

The Vice President said their mother asked her to return to Davao City and run as the city mayor again. She added that they have yet to discuss the matter with the rest of the family.

“Pag-uusapan namin kung kailan ako babalik sa Davao City (We will discuss when will I return to Davao City),” she said.

When asked if she plans to resign as Vice President, she said there is no talks of her resigning.

She revealed that her father, former President Rodrigo R. Duterte, her eldest brother, Davao City first district Rep. Paolo Duterte, and Mayor Duterte are keen for running for senator next year.

Vice President Duterte was the mayor of Davao City before she ran for the vice president.

She recently stepped down from her position as Education Secretary, vice chairperson of the NTF-ELCAC, and Cabinet member.
