House Speaker Martin Romualdez plans to seek his reelection as Leyte 1st district congressman in next year's mid-term elections.

Romualdez shared this information during a chance interview Wednesday, June 26 in Quezon City.

Asked by a reporter if he plans to run for senator in the May 2025 polls, Romualdez said, "Siguro mananatili muna ako sa first district ng Leyte adjust to my work kasi marami pang kailangang tapusin sa first district."

(I'll probably remain in the first district of Leyte adjust to my work because a lot still need to be done in the first district.)

Romualdez is currently on his second term as Leyte 1st district representative. He is eligible to run for a third and final term.

A successful reelection would give Romualdez the opportunity to become House Speaker in the 20th Congress, which covers the last three years of President Marcos' term.

Speaking of the end of the Marcos administration, Romualdez was also asked about his plans for the 2028 presidential elections, if any.

"Matagal pa yun, matagal pa yun (That will ltake a long time)," said the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD).
