In an interview in Cagayan de Oro City, where the Vice President hosted the annual OVP Pride Reception, she dropped the news  that her father and brothers plan to see a national post next year.

“Lahat silang raring na tumakbo eh—PRRD, senator. Iyong kuya ko, si Paolo Duterte,  iyong congressman ngayon, senator. Si Sebastian Duterte (All of them are raring to run—PRRD, senator. My older brother, Paolo Duterte, the congressman now, also senator. Sebastian Duterte, too),” she told reporters.

“Yes, tatlo ang Duterte next year for senator (Yes, there will be three Dutertes next year as senator),” she stressed when asked if her pronouncement was a confirmation.

Asked whether or not she will resign from the Office of the Vice President (OVP), she replied: “Wala. Walang ganun na usapan (We did not talk about it).”

Last week, Duterte resigned as the Department of Education (DepEd) secretary after months of turbulent relationship with First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos and the Marcos camp.

Though she did not give a reason for her resignation from the Marcos Cabinet, political pundits and political commentaries pointed to the possibility of her returning to Davao City as its local chief executive, while her brothers and father seek a higher position.

The former president and son Paolo have regularly placed inside the Magic 12 of various senatorial preferential surveys, while Sebastian has been the most vocal of the three siblings against the Marcos administration.

During the 2022 national elections, the former president planned on pursuing a senate seat but withdrew his Certificate of Candidacy (COC).
