The alleged distribution of rice packs marked "Romualdez rice" hasn't been sanctioned.

Thus, said House Speaker Martin Romualdez even as he vowed to respond to the matter.

"We haven't sanctioned that so that will be rectified," Romualdez told House of Representatives reporters Monday, June 24 during a chance interview at Manila Golf and Country Club in Makati City.

"But the most important thing is that we bring rice to every Filipino table at affordable prices," noted the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) president.

Before this, a picture of rice packs marked Romualdez rice spread on social media.

A particular post from Facebook page "Hapitots" about the photo has garnered over 25,000 "haha" and over 3,000 angry reactions as of Monday afternoon. The post gave no context about the photo.

Romualdez was given the "Mr. Rice" moniker by Sultan Kudarat Governor Pax Mangudadatu in February following the distribution of rice, cash, and food packs under the Cash and Rice Distribution Program (CARD) and the Bagong Pilipinas Serbisyo Fair (BPSF) held simultaneously in the province.

The House leader picked up the nickname.

Romualdez attended a meeting with rice traders Monday at Manila Golf and Country Club.
