Janice de Belen: Let's criminalize infidelity

Janice de Belen sparked heated debate on social media recently, suggesting the need to “criminalize infidelity.”

She did so seemingly addressing those who aren’t keen on allowing divorce around these parts.

Her complete post on X: “Kung ayaw nila ng divorce, let’s criminalize infidelity.”

Not a few netizens were quick to react.

Some agreed, even offering their ten cents on the issue.

There are those who argued that infidelity is already illegal here.

Note that in the Philippines, adultery and concubinage are considered criminal cases.

Penalty for adultery is prison correctional from the medium and maximum periods which translates to 2 years, 4 months and 1 day to 6 years for the wife and her paramour.

The Penalty for concubinage on the other hand is prison correctional in its minimum to medium term which translates to 6 months and 1 day up to 4 years and 2 months imprisonment for the husband.
