BACOLOD CITY – A fresh graduate drowned on the Malogo River in Banilad 3, Barangay Nanca, E.B. Magalona, Negros Occidental on Friday, June 21.

Police identified the victim as 24-year-old Renz Llorente of Barangay IV, Silay City, Negros Occidental.
Police Capt. Markelly Laganipa, deputy chief of the E.B. Magalona Municipal Police Station, said Llorente and his friends went swimming on the river to celebrate his graduation.
However, the victim drowned due to strong current intensified by rain.
The victim was taken to Teresita Lopez Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City where he was declared dead.
Llorente died two days after graduating with a degree in Bachelor of Science in Office Administration from the Silay Institute Inc.
The Silay Institute Inc. mourned the death of Llorente.
“His sudden departure was a complete burden to the whole family and friends,” the school said in a statement.
The school said he was as a dedicated student with vibrant spirit, which inspired others to be fortunate amid the uncertainties.
He is an exemplar of resilience as he kept on track despite the complexities he encountered, the school added.
