Couple drowns in 'death pool' in Pangasinan

CAMP FLORENDO, La Union – A couple drowned in an area called the “death pool” in Cabongaoan Beach, Barangay Baruan, Agno, Pangasinan on Saturday, June 22.

Police identified the victims as Gonzalo Maglalang Jr. and his wife, Emelita, 48, from Antipolo City, Rizal.

The couple checked in with their son, Eugene, 25, in a resort in Barangay Ilio-ilio, Burgos, Pangasinan.

They went to the death pool which was about 400 meters away from the resort.

Emelita accidentally slipped while walking on the rock formation beside the death pool and was taken away by the strong current.

Gonzalo jumped to rescue her but they were both taken away by the strong current and they drowned.

Police said responding fisher folk recovered the victims’ bodies.
