BDO resolves viral incident of missing P345,000 fund


BDO Unibank Inc. (BDO) has addressed the issue concerning a viral social media post regarding an alleged hacking incident leading to an unauthorized withdrawal of P345,000.

In a statement released on Monday, June 24, BDO responded to the account shared by Gleen Cañete on social media regarding the recent passbook incident.

BDO stated that it has thoroughly reviewed the withdrawals that caused distress to Cañete and has taken necessary steps to rectify the situation.

“All withdrawals done by the accountholder online were verified to be valid. Mr. Cañete advised BDO that they will resolve matters within their family,” the bank said.

Cañete, who had posted on Facebook but later removed the post, expressed his dismay about the disappearance of his P345,000 savings intended for his son's college education. 

Cañete said that this happened despite the funds being kept in an account that exclusively used a passbook for transactions.

Nevertheless, BDO reassured that the bank always prioritizes the security of its clients and encourages them to maintain the privacy of their accounts.
