Tondo fire victims get timely 'ayuda' from Speaker's office

House Speaker Martin Romualdez's office has facilitated the release of P2.5 million in cash assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to some 125 families recently displaced by fire in Manila.
The money was released to the beneficiaries last Friday, June 21 through the DSWD's Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program.
Manila 1st district Rep. Ernesto “Ernix” Dionisio Jr., according to House Deputy Secretary General Sofonias “Ponyong” Gabonada Jr. Each of the affected families received P20,000.
Gabonada said the Office of the Speaker, along with Tingog Party-list Reps. Yedda Marie Romualdez and Jude Acidre, chairman of the House Committee on Overseas Workers Affairs, also prepared 400 food packs for the victims of the fire that struck Barangay 58 in Tondo, Manila last June 16.
The assistance was sourced from the lawmakers' personal calamity funds.
“Through the concerted efforts of the Office of Speaker Romualdez, Tingog Party-list and DSWD, we have mobilized immediate relief for the families devastated by the Tondo fire,” Gabonada said.
Gabonada says each food pack is prepared to meet the immediate needs of the recipients.
“Furthermore, an additional allocation from the AICS program has been provided, ensuring each affected family will receive P20,000 to help them recover and rebuild,” he added.
The Office of Speaker Romualdez emphasized the importance of swift action in times of crisis. He said it is crucial to respond quickly to reduce the impact on affected communities.

“Our priority is to provide immediate and meaningful assistance to those affected by this unfortunate incident. By working together with DSWD and Congressman Dionisio, we aim to alleviate the suffering of the fire victims and help them rebuild their lives as quickly as possible,” Gabonada pointed out.
Dionisio thanked the House leader for his swift action and support to the fire victims.
“We are deeply thankful to Speaker Romualdez for his unwavering commitment to aiding our constituents in times of crisis,” the Manila lawmaker said.
He continued, “His (Speaker Romualdez’s) leadership has been instrumental in securing the necessary resources to help the fire victims of Tondo. This assistance will go a long way in providing immediate relief and supporting the recovery of our affected families.”
