Rain showers to persist due to ‘habagat’, thunderstorms

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Sunday, June 23, said rain showers may prevail across parts of the country due to the southwest monsoon and localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA said Palawan may experience cloudy weather with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms because of the prevalence of the southwest monsoon or “habagat.”

Residents and tourists in Palawan are warned of potential flash floods or landslides due to moderate to heavy rains.

Meanwhile, PAGASA said partly cloudy to cloudy weather conditions with isolated monsoon rain showers or thunderstorms may affect Metro Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Zambales, Bataan, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan.

It added that the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA also warned the public about potential flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.

Based on the PAGASA’s forecast for June 24, the likelihood of rainfall varies across key cities: Metro Manila (40 percent), Laoag City (30 percent), Baguio City (20 percent), Legazpi City (50 percent), Puerto Princesa City (30 percent), Metro Cebu (50 percent), Bacolod City (40 percent), Cagayan de Oro City (50 percent), Metro Davao (50 percent), and Zamboanga City (40 percent).
