Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil warned all policemen to stay away from Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) as he reminded all uniformed personnel to uphold the law and maintain the highest standards of integrity.
Marbil issued the statement amid allegations that some policemen either turned a blind eye or are in cahoots with POGO operations in their respective areas of responsibility—as well as a recent incident wherein some cops were accused of protecting POGO officials.
“Any police personnel involved in protecting illegal POGO operations will face appropriate disciplinary actions. Integrity and accountability are the cornerstones of our public service. We remain committed to ensuring that our officers uphold these values," said Marbil.
"This policy serves as a reminder: engage in illegal activities, and you will be dealt with accordingly," he added.
Currently, the PNP has been involved in various raids on POGO hubs, including those in Central Luzon, in coordination with Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC).
The PAOCC has been actively running after an average of 300 POGO hubs which were classified as illegal for failing to secure permits from the government.
The series of operations led to numerous arrests, seizure of illicit equipment, and significant disruption of unlawful activities.
Marbil also lauded the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and the Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) for activbely assisting in the anti-illegal POGO operations in the country.
“Their strategic planning and effective execution have safeguarded the public and demonstrated the PNP's capability to tackle complex criminal networks,” said Marbil.
