Davao del Norte 1st district Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez would gladly follow Vice President Sara Duterte if and when she takes on the mantle of opposition leader.

“Of course [I would support the Vice President as the leader of the opposition]," Alvarez, a former House Speaker, said in a statement Friday, June 21.

"In a healthy democracy, opposition which provides an alternative point of view with how the country is being governed is a must. Whoever this person that represents the best interest of the people and the whole country, we will follow," he said.

Some are already positioning the lady official as the new leader of the opposition to the current Marcos administration following her resignation as Department of Education (DepEd) secretary last Wednesday, June 19.

The Vice President is the daughter of Marcos administration critic, former president Rodrigo Duterte.

Asked if he had any advice to Vice PresidentDuterte, Alvarez said. “I trust VP Sara’s decisions as she navigates the political field of Philippine politics.”

The younger Duterte is a former Davao City mayor.
