PhilHealth raises hemodialysis coverage to P4,000 per session
The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) on Friday, June 21, announced the approval of an increase in its coverage for hemodialysis treatments to P4,000 per session, up from the current P2,600 per session.
The hemodialysis coverage increase was approved during a regular meeting of the PhilHealth Board, chaired by Health Secretary Teodoro J. Herbosa, the Department of Health (DOH) said in a statement.
The Board also granted separate approval for catheter insertion and blood transfusion payments, which can be claimed separately from the main case rate for admission.
During the meeting, the PhilHealth Board en banc discussed enhancing financial coverage for renal replacement therapy (RRT), including hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis.
The next step involves drafting a detailed PhilHealth Circular and operationalizing the improvements to ensure beneficiaries can promptly access the enhanced benefits.
RRT encompasses dialysis options for treating kidney failure, aiming to extend the lives of patients with end-stage kidney failure rather than cure the condition.
Herbosa echoed President Marcos’ vision of not just providing end-stage treatments but also prioritizing preventive care and early detection of diseases such as diabetes and hypertension, which are leading causes of chronic kidney disease.
