"The GSIS is committed to ensure that their benefits are processed swiftly, offering relief during this difficult time," GSIS President and General Manager Wick Veloso said in a statement released through GSIS Bacolod on Friday, June 21.

A teacher was killed and 31 co-teachers were among the 37 injured after a Bacolod city government-owned bus overturned in Barangay Igmaya-an due to a brake failure while on their way back here from a team-building event in Sipaway Island, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental.

Veloso said the dependents of the deceased teacher are eligible for death, survivorship, funeral, and personal accident insurance benefits.

He added that injured teachers are eligible for medical reimbursement through their personal accident insurance and file for an employee’s compensation claim related to the accident.

“The GSIS is closely working with the Department of Education (DepEd) to ensure these claims are released promptly," Veloso said.
