Two members of the Tactical Motorcycle Riding Unit (TMRU) of the Las Piñas City Police were injured during an encounter with an armed robber in Barangay Manuyo Dos on Thursday, June 20.
Las Piñas City Police Chief PCol. Sandro Tafalla identified the wounded policemen as P/MSgt. Warren Panton and P/MSgt. Avelino Lopez.
According to Tafalla, a retired Philippine Navy officer saw a man scaling the wall of the compound where he is living, prompting him to get his firearm and apprehend the suspect.
However, due to his age, the retiree was overpowered by the robber who also took his gun.
The two motorcycle-riding officers were then alerted by the commotion and tried to chase after the suspect.
A shootout ensued after the robber fired at the policemen, wounding the both of them. The robber was killed on-the-spot.
Tafalla said the two policemen were immediately brought at the Las Piñas Doctors Hospital for treatment after being shot on their legs.
