Policeman in Antipolo road rage incident now under restrictive custody - Rizal PPO

A policeman involved in a viral road rage incident in Antipolo, Rizal on June 18, has been disarmed and is now under the restrictive custody of Morong Police Station, Police Provincial Office (Rizal PPO) director PCol. Felipe Maraggun announced Wednesday, June 19.

"Nasa restrictive custody na ng Morong Municipal Police Station ang pulis na sangkot sa viral video kung saan siya ay naglabas ng baril dahil sa isang away trapiko na naganap sa zigzag road sa bayan ng Antipolo. Dagdag pa dito ay dinisarmahan na ito ng kaniyang hepe (The police officer involved in the viral video where he was seen pulling out a firearm during a traffic altercation with another motorist along the zigzag road in the town of Antipolo, is now under restrictive custody of the Morong Municipal Police Station. "Ang ganitong uri ng kaganapan ay hindi natin i-totolerate. Bagkus ay papatawan natin ng karampatang kaparusahan na naaayon sa ating batas (We will not tolerate these kinds of incidents. We will also make sure to impose the appropriate punishment on the policeman)," he added.

For its part, the Morong Municipal Police said it is not tolerating the action of its personnel and urged the victim to file appropriate charges against him.

"Nais po naming ipabatid sa lahat na hindi po kinukunsinti ng pamunuan ng Morong PNP ang mga maling gawain sa hanay ng ating kapulisan. Kung sino man po ang nasangkot sa nasabing pangyayari ay malugod po namin kayong inaanyayahan sa aming himpilan upang idulog ang inyong reklamo at maimbestigahan po natin ang nasabing insidente (We wish to inform everyone that the leadership of the Morong PNP will not tolerate the wrongful acts of our police officers. We urge whoever is the other person involved in the road rage incident to proceed to our office and file appropriate charges against the policeman)," it explained.

In a now viral video of complainant Willy Ruiz, a motorcycle rider who identified himself as a police officer, is seen telling him to get out of his vehicle while holding a gun. The rider told Ruiz that he had allegedly cut his way up the mountain.

The rider's motorcycle had no license plate.

According to Rizal Governor Nina Ynares, she had already seen the video of the incident and immediately coordinated with Maraggun to determine if the rider is really a police officer. He then confirmed that the gun-toting man is indeed a policeman assigned to the Morong Municipal Police.

"Atin pong kinukondena at hinding-hindi papalampasin ang mga ganitong insidente. Tututukan po natin hanggang lumabas ang resulta ng imbestigasyon at ang ipapataw na karampatang kaparusahan sa nasabing pulis (We are extremely condemning these kinds of incidents. We will make sure to keep an eye on the police investigation and impose the appropriate punishment on the policeman)," Ynares said.
