Manila Water: EDSA Guadalupe mainline upgrade completed by Q4

East Zone concessionaire Manila Water Co. Inc. said that the replacement of the outdated water mainline in Guadalupe, Makati, will be completed before the end of the year.

In a statement, Manila Water said that the project, estimated at P47 million, involves the upgrade of the 500-millimeter (mm) water mainline along EDSA Guadalupe Southbound.

Under the plan, the existing old mainlines near the intersection of JP Rizal Street on the EDSA Guadalupe Southbound Lane will be replaced with a more resilient 600-mm steel pipe.

“The project, called the Steel Pipe Replacement Greenways Project Package 1, utilizes a newer and sturdier steel pipe spanning 332.3 linear meters, which will be connected seamlessly to the existing 500-mm steel pipe in the same area,” Manila Water said.

Construction of the P47-million pipeline project began in July 2023, coinciding with preparation for the EDSA Greenways Project.

Manila Water said that upon its expected completion in the fourth quarter of this year, the installation of the new pipes will enhance the resilience of the water infrastructure along EDSA.

The company added that it will reduce the likelihood of leaks and ensure the smooth progress of the construction of the EDSA Greenways project.

The Department of Transportation’s EDSA Greenways Project is a pedestrian walkway with transit stations at Balintawak, Cubao, Guadalupe, and Taft.

Pipe construction works cover pavement breaking, open-cut excavation, pipelaying, valve insertion along St. Bernardino Street, and interconnection of the 600-mm steel pipe to the existing 500-mm steel pipe.

Traffic management is being implemented to minimize disruption, as most of the construction activities are being conducted during the night.

“Projects like the steel pipe replacement along EDSA Guadalupe are opportunities for us to improve water service for our customers while supporting government infrastructure projects such as the DOTr’s Greenways Project,” Jeric Sevilla, Manila Water corporate communications affairs group director, said.
