'Longest day of the year': Summer solstice occurs on June 21

Get ready to soak in the sunlight!
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the June solstice, also known as the “summer solstice,” will occur on Friday, June 21.
This astronomical event, PAGASA said, marks the longest day and shortest night of the year in the northern hemisphere—when the Sun reaches its highest point in the sky.
During the solstice, the Sun will be directly overhead at a declination of 23.5°N, positioned within the constellation of Cancer, it explained.
“This positioning signals the onset of summer in the northern hemisphere and winter in the southern hemisphere, according to astronomers,” it added.
However, the actual duration of daylight varies across different parts of the country.
For Metro Manila in particular, the Sun will rise at 5:28 a.m. and set at 6:28 p.m., providing the capital region with 13 hours of daylight.
