The MDL Philippine Season 3 champions, composed of Cymond "CY" Torres, Denniel "xNova" Denison Gomez, Gabriel "DENJIRO" Guinto Edferdz "Ferdz" Fernandez Carl Edriel "Minguin" Gallantes, took down their seasoned counterparts from the MPL Philippines to come out as the best team in the qualifiers.
After a pair of 2-1 victories in the first two rounds of the single elimination bracket, RRQ Kaito defeated reigning M5 World Champion Falcons APBren in the semifinals and Smart Omega in the Finals.
Like the previous editions of the qualifiers, players of RRQ along with fellow Final Four teams in FCAP, Omega and RV FRYD Esports will play in a combine before the final team is picked.
By virtue of ruling the qualifiers, RRQ Kaito head coach Paulo “PauloXpert” Munsayac will have the luxury to coach the national team and pick his players for the IESF World Esports Championships in Riyadh in November.
Signs of the upset were already on the wall as early as Game 1 as RRQ Kaito managed to survive a strong start from the MPL Philippines Season 13 finalist.
The Kingdom showed great poise and patience as they dragged the match to the late game where CY took over on his Harith pick. He finished with a 3-0-6 KDA as RRQ took Game 11-12.
FCAP, of course, saved some blushes and avoided a sweep in Game 2 with a dominant 12-1 win to force the decider.
Unbothered by the lopsided defeat, however, was RRQ which then retaliated with an impressive Game 3 performance. CY, on his Natan pick, scored a triple kill in the deciding clash at the 16th minute mark to end the series, 15-7.
Brimming with confidence after taking down the world champions in the earlier series, RRQ Kaito hardly broke a sweat in defeating the Joshua “Ch4knu” Mangilog-led Omega with a 2-0 sweep.
RRQ was dominant right from the get go and completed a 15-4 Game 1 win before taking care of business with a convincing 10-5 win.
