Joida Gagnao added another mint in Team Philippines’ war chest after capturing the bronze medal in the women’s 3000-meter steeplechase at the 2024 Taiwan Athletics Open on Saturday, June 1.

The 28-year-old national team member clocked 11 minutes and 7.63 seconds to finish behind Korea’s NBM Bohana (10:33.70) and Kaede Oya (10:34.30), who captured gold and silver medals, respectively.
Gagnao’s feat came after Michael Del Prado and Sonny Wagnos delivered silver and bronze medals, respectively, in the men’s 400m and men’s 1500m.
Del Prado, son of two-time Olympian Isidro, checked in 47.13 seconds to take the men’s 400m silver behind eventual gold medalist Aruna Dharshana Singhapurage of Sri Lanka (45.82sec). Hometown bet Wu Zhengyan settled for bronze with 47.89sec.
Wagdos, meanwhile, bagged the men’s 1500m bronze after timing a personal- and season-best 3 minutes and 51.50sec behind South Korea’s Kim Yongsoo (3:49.96) and Indonesia’s Putra Wahyudi (3:50.22).
Other Filipino bets, however, were not so fortunate.
Bernalyn Bejoy came in sixth in the women’s 400m with a time of 56.25sec while Junel Gobotia placed fourth in men’s 3000m steeplechase in 9:17.94.
Triple jumpers Ronne Malipay and Mark Harry Diones, meanwhile, settled for fourth and fifth places with 15.51m and 15.25m performances.
