Sotto made the statement after Meralco conducted wire clearing operations along E. Santos Street in Barangay Sumilang on Tuesday, June 18.

According to him, some Pasigueños were hesitant about Meralco's operation due to the inconvenience it might cause.

“Sa ibang lugar, nagdadalawang isip sila kung papayagan ang Meralco dahil madalas nadadamay rin ang mga linya ng internet or cable. Marami kasing telecommunications (telco) na illegal o mali ang pagkakakabit ng wire (In other places, they are having second thoughts on whether to allow Meralco because internet or cable lines are often affected. There are also a lot of illegal or improperly connected telco wires),” Sotto said.

On the other hand, he said that many would still agree that a little inconvenience can bring significant changes to the city.

“Pero alam kong sumasang-ayon ang karamihan ‘pag sinabi ko na kailangan tiisin natin ang konting abala, para maging mas maaliwalas at mas ligtas ang ating kapaligiran. Kapag nag-clearing at natamaan ang mga maling linya ng telcos, mapipilitan silang kumabit na ng tama sa susunod (But I know most people would agree when I say that we have to endure a little inconvenience so that our environment can be more pleasing to the eyes and safer. When Meralco's operation hits improperly connected telco wires, they will be forced to connect them correctly next time),” he added.

On Tuesday, May 18, the Metro Manila Council (MMC) passed a resolution urging LGUs in the National Capital Region (NCR) to issue ordinances against dangling and tangled wires of telcos and electric posts in Metro Manila.

According to Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Resolution Number 24-16, Series of 2024, NCR cities are urged to “enact and adopt an ordinance regulating and monitoring the construction, installation, and maintenance of distribution lines and other appurtenant structures and assemblies of public utilities within their jurisdiction.”

The order will be effective once all NCR mayors sign it within the week.
