Lagman says UniTeam is 'terminated absolutely'

This, as Lagman noted that Vice President Sara Duterte's resignation as Department of Education (DepEd) secretary at the exact moment in Malacañang marked the end of the administration's UniTeam coalition.

"Duterte’s departure from a prime position in the President’s Cabinet ends with finality the increasingly tenuous partisan relations between the Duterte and Marcos political power blocs," said the Liberal Party (LP) president.

"This terminates absolutely the UniTeam," reckoned Lagman, an independent minority congressman.

The UniTeam--which at its very core refers to the partnership of President Marcos and Vice President Duterte--emerged as the dominant political brand after the May 2022 national elections.

But in recent months, the Vice President's father, former president Rodrigo Duterte, has become the most influential critic of the Marcos administration.

The elder Duterte had also hurled tirades at House Speaker Martin Romualdez, Marcos' cousin and top ally in the legislature.

Just days before her resignation as DepEd secretary, Vice President Duterte told reporters that the UniTeam didn't extend beyond the 2022 polls.
