'Habagat' to bring rain showers on June 24--- PAGASA

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Monday, June 24, said that rain showers may continue to prevail across parts of the country due to the southwest monsoon, locally known as "habagat."

"In our latest satellite images, the southwest monsoon, or 'hanging habagat,' continues to prevail, particularly affecting the western part of Southern Luzon," PAGASA Weather Specialist Obet Badrina said in the latest weather report.

"We still expect that this southwest monsoon will bring cloudy skies with a higher chance of rain, especially in parts of Palawan," he added in a mix of English and Filipino.

In a 24-hour public weather forecast, the state weather bureau said that Metro Manila, Cavite, Batangas, Zambales, Bataan, and Occidental Mindoro may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

This weather condition is caused by the "habagat," which may lead to flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, Badrina said that PAGASA anticipates the easterlies, or the winds coming from the Pacific Ocean, might start to prevail.

"Thus, our countrymen in parts of Eastern Visayas, Surigao del Norte, and Dinagat Islands should expect cloudy skies in your areas with scattered rain showers, lightning, and thunderstorms," he said.

This could result in possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to occasionally heavy rains.

Furthermore, the weather specialist provided the expected temperatures for Monday in the following areas:
