Canlaon City calls off Charter Day activities due to Kanlaon eruption
BACOLOD CITY – The city government of Canlaon in Negros Oriental has called off activities for the 57th Charter Day anniversary due to the threat posed by Kanlaon Volcano which erupted on June 3.

The city will only hold a thanksgiving Mass and a wreath-laying ceremony on July 2, an advisory posted on Facebook said.
This is pursuant to the recommendation of the Incident Management Team (IMT) due to the continued volcanic unrest, the city government said.
The eruption affected five barangays in Canlaon City – Pula, Malaiba, Lumapao, Masulog, and Linuthangan – and displaced thousands of residents.
Evacuees have returned to their homes and the city government continues to monitor the situation.
A June 19 advisory of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said five volcanic earthquakes were recorded on Kanlaon Volcano.
Volcanic sulfur dioxide gas emission on Tuesday, June 18, averaged 2,713 tons per day. The volcano remains under Alert Level 2.
The public was strongly advised to be vigilant, avoid flying near the crater, and entry to the four kilometer-radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) is still prohibited.
