TACLOBAN CITY – An injured dolphin was found and rescued on the shoreline of Barangay Lungsodaan, Padre Burgos, Southern Leyte on Monday, June 17.
The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources-Region 8 (Eastern Visayas) said the dolphin was two to 2.3 meters long and weighed 150 kilograms.
The dolphin’s fluke (tail) was completely severed, leaving its flesh exposed, rescuers said.

Authorities kept the dolphin afloat and provided the mammal with a life vest.
The BFAR-8 deployed its Marine Mammal Stranding Team to evaluate the dolphin's condition and arranged its transfer to the Mammal Stranding Facility in Ormoc City, Leyte.
Plans to find a suitable location for the dolphin's long-term rehabilitation are being carried out in collaboration with the city government of Ormoc and the Philippine Marine Mammal Stranding Network.
Authorities are investigating to determine why the dolphin was stranded.
The BFAR-8 urged the public to report any sightings or strandings to their Municipal Agriculture’s Office (MAO) or BFAR-8 for prompt assistance and support.
