“The privacy and dignity of our children must be safeguarded at all costs,” said the NPC in a statement after it came to their attention that a video of a child’s circumcision was spreading across social media platforms.

“Let us uphold our responsibility in maintaining a safe and respectful online environment for everyone,” the NPC added.

The NPC also urged the public to “avoid sharing such sensitive content, particularly when it involves minors, as it exposes them to potential cyberbullying and infringes upon their privacy and dignity.”

The unauthorized sharing of videos or images involving children, the NPC stated, not only violates their privacy rights but may “also lead to serious psychological and social consequences.”

The NPC then urged netizens to report the video to platform administrators if they encounter it online.

“Most social media and video-sharing platforms have mechanisms in place to address and remove content that violates privacy standards,” the NPC noted.

Moreover, the NPC called on healthcare providers to “diligently remind parents and guardians taking pictures and videos of healthcare practices or operations of the importance of responsible social media usage.”
