TACLOBAN CITY – To cultivate a sense of appreciation and proactive involvement in nature and marine conservation among the youth, the Local Youth Development Office of Palompon town in Leyte province has tapped children to experience the Nature and Marine Biodiversity Walk as part of the Summer Kids and Youth Camp 2024.

THE Local Youth Development Office of Palompon town in Leyte province held a biodiversity walk for children.
Children, accompanied by their parents and guardians, visited ecotourism sites in the municipality.
The event commenced at Palompon Eco Park where participants were introduced to the municipality's solid waste management programs and machines.
They visited Maria Anabe Cave for a storytelling session on native folklore, followed by a kayak activity at the Tabuk Marine and Bird Sanctuary.
Participants learned about various marine species, including mangroves, giant fruit bats, fish, and corals.
The final stop at Palompon Terrestrial Eco-Adventure Park provided a view of nature, offering rides such as the sky bike and zipline for parents to enjoy.
Palompon, known for Kalanggaman Island, the top tourist destination in Eastern Visayas, developed an eco-tourism program in 2011 that considered the needs of the environment, the local community, local government, and tourists.
The municipality was the only local government unit in Visayas that made it to the Top 10 Galing Pook Awardees in 2017 for its Integrated Community-Based Eco-Tourism and Coastal Resource Management.
Under the program, the local tourism industry was systematically organized to promote a responsible, sustainable, and internationally acceptable business model characterized by quality service to tourists.
Galing Pook is an award-giving body launched in 1993 as a pioneering program that searches and recognizes innovative practices by local government units.
