CEBU CITY – Be careful when swimming on rivers.

Authorities issued this reminder after two teenagers drowned while swimming on a river in Batuan town, Bohol province on Saturday afternoon, June 15.
Police said the two victims aged 17 and 15 were with a group of friends swimming on Makapiko River when the incident happened past 2 p.m.
The 15-year-old boy was carried away by a strong current and was stuck between a rock.
The 17-year-old boy tried to rescue his companion but he too was carried away by the strong current.
The victims’ friends and other people in the area tried to rescue the two boys but to no avail.
Emergency responders from the Batuan Rural Health Unit and operatives of the Batuan Police Station arrived in the area after receiving a report of the incident.
The two victims were fished out from the water with a backhoe. The victims were brought to a hospital where they were declared dead, police said.
