Up to 48°C heat index may be recorded on June 17

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said a heat index of up to 48 degrees Celsius (°C) may be recorded during the celebration of Eid’l Adha on Monday, June 17.

This suggests that intense will persist, potentially reaching “dangerous” levels in 28 areas.

PAGASA said a heat index ranging from 42°C to 51°C is considered dangerous due to its increased potential to cause heat-related illnesses such as cramps and exhaustion, while continued exposure under such conditions raises the risk of heat stroke, particularly during physical activity.

Based on its forecast, PAGASA said the heat index may reach 48°C in Aparri, Cagayan and Abucay, Bataan.

Meanwhile, Dagupan City, Pangasinan; Tuguegarao City, Cagayan; and Casiguran, Aurora may experience a heat index of 46°C.

It may hit 45°C in Pasay City, Metro Manila; Echague, Isabela; Baler, Aurora; and Daet, Camarines Norte, while it may reach 44°C in Bacnotan, La Union; Calayan, Cagayan; and Iba, Zambales.

PAGASA said Laoag City, Ilocos Norte; Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya; Muñoz, Nueva Ecija; Ambulong, Tanauan, Batangas; and Virac, Catanduanes may log a heat index of 43°C.

A heat index of 42°C may also be registered in Itbayat, Batanes; Basco, Batanes; Cubi Pt. Subic Bay, Olongapo City; Tayabas City, Quezon province; Legazpi City, Albay; Masbate City, Masbate; Juban, Sorsogon; Pili, Camarines Sur; Roxas City, Capiz; Mambusao, Capiz; and Dipolog Zamboanga del Norte.

PAGASA said the effect of the southwest monsoon, locally known as “habagat,” may only affect Palawan and Occidental Mindoro, bringing cloudy weather with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over the next 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country may experience humid weather due to partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
