Personnel of the Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau (MTPB) arrested a man who pretended to be a traffic enforcer and was caught in the act of flagging down motorists violating traffic laws along Quirino Avenue, Malate, Manila, on Friday afternoon, June 15.
The Manila Police District identified the suspect as Marc Arquero, 38, resident of 311 Inocencio Street, Barangay 95, Tondo, Manila.
He was brought to the Manila Police District- Special Mayor Reaction Team (MPD-SMaRT) for the corresponding investigation.
According to MTPB Traffic Enforcers Angelito C. Tongol Jr. and Joselito L. Galicio, they saw the suspect directing traffic and catching motorists at around 1:35 p.m. on Friday.
They added that the suspect was wearing the MTPB uniform and jacket and was holding a handheld radio.
MTPB disclosed that its office received complaints from motorists about an alleged MTPB member who was causing a commotion in the area.
The fake traffic enforcer was charged with violation of Article 177 (Usurpation of Authority and Official Functions) and Article 179 (Illegal Use of Uniform or Insignia) at the Manila Prosecutors Office.
