TACLOBAN CITY – The provincial government of Samar expressed optimism that it will once again receive the sought-after 2024 Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) as part of its commitment to promoting good governance and ensuring the delivery of public service.

The province, which received the SGLG Award in 2016, 2019, and 2023, underwent a regional assessment from June 13 to 14 at the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Session Hall in Catbalogan City.
The SGLG Regional Assessment Team from the Department of the Interior and Local Government Eastern Samar Provincial Office headed by Provincial Director Johannes Y. Dorado evaluated the documents and other Modes of Verification (MOVs) and interviewed the department heads and program locals.
Board Member Fe Arcales urged the local government units to take on greater challenges and outcome-based performance.
“While the provincial government is thankful that its performance has been commended several times, it also poses a great challenge that keeps every official and employee on their toes. We are excited, hopeful, and keeping our fingers crossed for the next SGLG Award,” Arcales added.
To qualify for the SGLG Award, the province of Samar has to pass 10 governance areas – financial administration, disaster preparedness, social protection and sensitivity, health compliance and responsiveness, sustainable education, business-friendliness and competitiveness, safety, peace and order, environmental management tourism, heritage development, culture and arts, and youth development.
A regional calibration will be conducted by the Department of Interior and Local Government 8 to determine which LGUs will proceed to the National SGLG Assessment.
