In a social media post, the DOH shared six useful tips to prevent occurrences of Dengue by eradicating all possible breeding grounds of the Aedes mosquito.
First in the list is to “tip over containers that can collect water and serve as mosquito breeding sites." DOH urged the public to "cover other storage containers."
Other useful tips—recycle or dispose of bottles and other containers; wear long pants and long-sleeved shirts; keep the body and surroundings clean; and use mosquito repellent daily.
The country's health department also requested the public to "participate and support local community efforts and government projects to combat diseases like dengue."
Dengue carrier
The Aedes mosquito carries Dengue, and individuals may get the disease from its bite.
The DOH highlighted that a person can get Dengue multiple times due to its different serotypes, DENV1, DENV2, DENV3, and DENV4.
The Aedes mosquito is characterized by white and black stripes on its body.
It typically bites between 6:00-8:00 in the morning and 4:00-8:00 in the evening, with only female mosquitoes known to bite.
The Aedes mosquito lays eggs in clean, stagnant water and can also spread Zika, Chikungunya, and other diseases.
On June 11, DOH said it monitored a three percent rise in dengue cases, increasing from 5,212 between April 14 and April 27 to 5,359 between April 28 and May 11.
The number eventually dropped, with the country's health department logging 3,992 cases from May 12 to May 25.
