Malabon City Mayor Jeannie Sandoval on Friday, June 14, assured Malabueños that the city government is prepared for the rainy season amid the Malabon-Navotas River gate malfunction on June 12.

“Bagama’t hindi inaasahan ang nangyari sa Malabon-Navotas River navigational gate, handa ang ating mga departamento sa pamahalaang lungsod ng Malabon na magsawa ng mga hakbang upang masigurong ligtas at maayos ang kalagayan ang ating mga mahal na Malabueño (Although what happened at the Malabon-Navotas River navigational gate was unexpected, our departments in the city government of Malabon are ready to take measures to ensure the safety and well-being of our dear Malabueños),” Sandoval said.
“Panawagan ko rin sa ating mga kababayan na makipagtulungan, ipagpatuloy ang kooperasyon sa mga opisyal ng pamahalaang lungsod upang mas mapadali ang mga operasyon gaya ng paglikas kung ito man ay kinakailangan (I also call on our fellow citizens to cooperate, continue cooperation with city government officials to facilitate operations such as evacuation if necessary),” she added.
Sandoval explained that personnel from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) are already working on fixing the gate which allegedly malfunctioned due to mechanical issues.
Meanwhile, the local government said that all its pumping stations are operational and the floodgates in the city are closed. It also prepared sandbags for a possible riverwall overtop activity.
