Man arrested for illegal possession of firearm in Las Piñas City

A 19-year-old man who was arrested by the police at a checkpoint for not wearing helmet was found to be in possession of a .38 caliber revolver on Wednesday, June 12.
The Southern Police District (SPD) said the suspect, identified as alias Kha-Ki, was arrested at around 11:15 a.m. along Marcos Alvarez St., Barangay Talon Singko, Las Piñas City.
According to the report of Las Piñas City Police Chief Col. Sandro Tafalla, members of the Las Piñas Police Talon Substation were conducting a checkpoint in the area when they spotted the suspect who was not wearing a helmet on board his motorcycle.
Tafalla said the suspect sped off when ordered to stop by the members of Talon substation and a chase followed leading to his arrest.
He said the suspect failed to present his driver’s license and documents of his motorcycle which had no plate number.
Also found in the possession of the suspect was a .38 caliber revolver with two ammunitions placed inside a blue belt bag.
The suspect was detained at the police custodial facility after his arrest and charged for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act and also for non-compliance with RA 10054 or the Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009.
