Duterte said this as the Philippines marked the 126th anniversary of the proclamation of its independence on Wednesday, June 12.

In her message, the Vice President said she was one with the Filipinos in commemorating one of the important dates in the country's history and in remembering those who sacrificed for its liberty.

"Nakikiisa ako sa ating mga kababayan sa pagdiriwang ng Araw ng Kalayaan (I join the celebration of Independence Day)," she wrote on Wednesday.

"Ang araw na ito ay isang pag-alala at pagkilala sa ating mga bayani, sa lahat ng sakripisyo nila para sa ating kalayaan at kasarinlan (This day serves as a reminder and recognition of our heroes and all their sacrifices for our freedom)," she added.

According to Vice President Duterte, Independence Day also serves as a reminder for Filipinos to work together for the country's sake.

"Ito ay isa ring palala sa atin na ipagpatuloy natin ang pagtutulungan at pagkakaisa tungo sa isang matatag, mapayapa, at maunlad na bansang Pilipinas (This is also a reminder that we should ocntinue working together toward a resilient, peaceful, and prosperous Philippines)," she said.

Duterte graced the Independence Day rites in Davao City on Wednesday morning while President Marcos led the flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremonies at the Rizal Park in Manila.
