Mercedes-Benz continues the electric revolution with the EQE SUV

Expanding electrified offerings

Mercedes-Benz General Manager, Rhomel Franco, introduces the EQE SUV.

Mercedes-Benz in the Philippines, has just launched the all-electric Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV. The brand new luxury SUV is the second electrified SUV in the brand’s Philippine catalog and is the fifth to join Mercedes-Benz’s stable of EVs. The vehicle was unveiled at the Mercedes-Benz BGC Showroom in the presence of bank partners, VIPs, executives and the motoring media.

The brand’s EV push continues, albeit at a slower rate, as the German brand recently announced a restructuring of their original plan to have a zero-combustion catalog by 2025, pushing the target date to 2030 instead.

The EQE SUV is a bigger brother to the EQE sedan with both vehicles sharing the same platform and drivetrain options. The styling is similar, but looks more like a bulked up EQE sedan to achieve a heftier profile. The EQE SUV features a sleek and aerodynamic design that is representative of the brand’s current styling for their EVs. Prominent LED headlamps curve and blend into the fenders as they do to the black panel grille with star patterns. Features such as seamless door handles that feature the Mercedes-Benz branding when popped out, exhibits a level of detail only seen in premium products. The look is complemented by 21-inch AMG multi-spoke wheels in a machined, glossy finish wrapped in 265/40 R21 Pirelli P Zero tires. Advanced lighting technology, including digital LED units equipped with ultra-range high beams, are a subtle nod to the amount of tech and engineering that’s within the vehicle. At the rear, LED tail lights designed in a curved 3D helix shape, along with a continuous light band, create quite the visual effect.

Inside, the EQE SUV offers ample space and comfort. The roomy interior ensures generous legroom and headroom for all passengers. The leather-clad and stitched AMG-line interior offers features such as adjustable support, massage functions, and climate control for added comfort. The Mercedes-Benz fragrance system allows drivers to choose a scent, enhancing the experience of luxury. As a big SUV, the vehicle has flexible storage capacity, ranging from 580 liters to 1675 liters with the rear seats folded down.

To add to the experience, the SUV is equipped with a Burmester 3D surround sound system with 15 speakers for high-quality audio. Coupled with the active ambient lighting which allows drivers to adjust the light strips to suit their mood, the perfect song can transport the occupants into another state of being.

The EQE SUV also features the brand’s MBUX Hyperscreen, a 56-inch glass panel with three integrated displays. It’s so futuristic looking, it’ll put you right smack in the middle of the next decade. Powered by AI, the Hyperscreen connects all vehicle systems, optimizing performance and enhancing the driving experience. This system learns the driver's habits and preferences, offering personalized suggestions. The accompanying "Zero Layer" feature ensures that essential information is always easily accessible, reducing distractions and increasing safety, while providing easy access to navigation, entertainment, and other functions.

Advanced safety features in the EQE SUV come in the form of a driver assistance package which offers situational support, collision warnings, and intervention if necessary. The brand’s Speedtronic adaptive cruise control maintains a safe distance from the vehicle ahead. A heads-up display (HUD) turns the windshield into a digital cockpit, allowing drivers to view important information without looking away from the road. There is also a parking package with a 360-degree camera that simplifies parking and maneuvering in tight spaces.

Priced at ₱7,190,000, the EQE SUV offers an electric range of 536-km to 628-km, making it suitable for long trips such as a round trip from Manila to Baguio. A dual-motor setup delivers 292-horsepower and 565-Nm of torque through the eATS drivetrain system, ensuring good performance, all-wheel traction, and quick acceleration. The lithium-ion battery, with a capacity of up to 96-kilowatt hours, can be charged with 170-kilowatts using the onboard DC fast charging system. It comes with a Type 2 / Combined Charging System (CCS) charger and all EQE SUV purchases come with a 7.4 kW home wall charger.
