Three farmers were killed in lightning strikes in Isabela and Ilocos Sur on Monday, June 10.

Police identified the victims as Edwin Madduma, 40, and Wilson Figarola, 56, residents of the City of Ilagan, Isabela, and Rogelio A. Sucop, 65, of Sitio Kimpakpakan, Barangay Santo Rosario, Sigay, Ilocos Sur.
Police Executive Master Sergeant Bobby Taccad, chief investigator of the City of Ilagan police station, said Madduma and Figarola were struck by lightning while tending to their rice field at about 4:30 p.m.
Madduma’s body was recovered by his colleagues who had sought shelter before the thunderstorm in a makeshift hut.
He was taken to the hospital where he was declared dead due to injuries caused by the lightning strike.
Figarola’s body was found on Tuesday morning, June 11, in his rice field about 200 meters away from Madduma’s.
Taccad said that the same lightning strike might have also killed Figarola.
Sucop’s body was found inside his makeshift hut near his rice field with burns and lacerations.
The Sigay Rural Health Unit and Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office were informed and proceeded to the area but the victim’s remains have been taken by his relative to his house.
Sucop’s family is convinced that he died due to a lightning because of his injuries.
Following these incidents, police advised farmers to take shelter and the necessary precautions during thunderstorms for their safety.
