Informal workers in Bacolod receive P4.3-M aid on Independence Day
BACOLOD CITY – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) turned over P4.3 million in financial assistance to a total of 907 informal workers from nine barangays in this city on Independence Day.

The payout of the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) assistance was held during the DOLE Kalayaan Job Fair at SM City Bacolod in line with Independence Day.
Barangays 1, 2, 3, 11, 15, 17, 18, 33, and 37 received the financial assistance in the presence of Bacolod Rep. Greg Gasataya and Mayor Albee Benitez.
Barangay 1 received P513,600, benefitting 107 beneficiaries, while the remaining barangays each got P480,000 for 800 recipients.
The amount forms part of the P157.2-million worth of TUPAD assistance provided to 29,996 beneficiaries across Western Visayas who are considered as mostly underserved, unserved, and hard to reach sector of society.
Meanwhile, over 8,000 local and overseas vacancies were offered by more than 60 companies to jobseekers here during the job fair.
According to DOLE-Western Visayas, 45 applicants were hired on the spot as of 12:40 p.m.
Sixto Rodriguez Jr., DOLE-Western Visayas director, thanked participating companies for the job opportunities.
“Our combined effort of providing employment and livelihood is our way of alleviating their economic condition,” he added.
